Congressman Tom Marino

Representing the 10th District of Pennsylvania

This Time It Is Different

January 6, 2016
Press Release

Washington, D.C.—Today, Congressman Tom Marino voted in favor of H.R. 3762- the Restoring Americans’ Healthcare Freedom Reconciliation Act which passed by a vote 240 to 181. Because the House and Senate adopted a budget resolution in December, today’s vote is the first repeal of Obamacare to actually reach President Obama’s desk. This legislation eliminates the individual and employer mandates, repeals the medical device and “Cadillac” taxes, and protects the solvency of Medicare for our seniors.

Not only does this bill repeal Obamacare but it also defunds Planned Parenthood which has been exposed for conducting taxpayer-funded abortions and the sale of fetal body parts. On top of that, the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office (CBO) determined it will actually reduce the deficit by over $500 billion.

Congressman Marino issued the following statement about the bill’s passage:

“I have persistently and tediously advocated for Congress to utilize the reconciliation process – finally we did. Now the heaping mess that is Obamacare is on the President’s desk. Over the years Harry Reid shielded him from having to veto a bill of this kind. This time it is different – and it is different because of this process.

We passed this bill because it is patient-centered and ends the atrocities at Planned Parenthood. This is not some partisan vendetta either – Democrats joined us in this effort because it is the right thing to do and remedies the disastrous effects of Obamacare.

The American people chose Republicans to lead. By sending this bill to Obama’s desk, we are demonstrating just how effective we can be with a Republicans occupant in the White House.”
