Rep. Marino Urges Governor Wolf to Reconsider Acceptance of Syrians
Washington, D.C.—Congressman Tom Marino (PA-10) wrote a letter to Pennsylvania Governor, Tom Wolf, urging him to reconsider his acceptance of “Syrian refugees” in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Marino’s letter is in response to Wolf’s announcement that he would cooperate with President Obama’s newest plan to resettle up to 10,000 Syrians in the United States.
Congressman Marino issued the following statement about his letter to Governor Wolf and the overall concerns surrounding the resettlement of Syrians and others fleeing the war-torn region:
“It is my impression that Governor Wolf’s announcement to accept these so-called refugees is not in keeping with what should be his number one priority – to keep the communities of the Commonwealth safe and secure. His decision is more to score political points with the Obama Administration than to seriously consider what is best for the people we serve.
Governor Wolf should put politics aside and reconsider his decision to trust the Obama Administration has thoroughly vetted individuals coming from Syria or Iraq. Mr. Wolf should heed the warnings of FBI Director Comey as I indicate in my letter and wait until the federal government can determine with absolute certainty that every individual entering this country from those areas can be properly vetted – until then, he is only exacerbating and politicizing one of the great national security challenges of our time.”
