Rep. Marino: Howard Coble Was a Gentleman Second to None
Washington D.C.—Congressman Tom Marino (PA-10) issued the following statement about the passing of former Congressman Howard Coble (NC-06):
“Howard was a gentleman second to none. He was loved by many and respected by all. He knew how to put a smile on anyone’s face and lighten the mood in heavy situations.
I met Howard when I first arrived to Congress in 2011. He immediately took me under his wing, showed me the ropes, so to speak, and imposed a tremendous amount of knowledge as I began work on the House Judiciary Committee. He spent a great deal of time preparing me to head-up the Judiciary Subcommittee and I always referred to him as ‘boss.’ He earned that endearing title from colleagues on both sides of the aisle on Capitol Hill.
Much of my success in Congress is due to Howard’s guidance, advice and endorsements. He was the truest gentleman I have ever known and someone I looked up to. Not a day has gone, or will go, by without the sincerest feelings of gratitude and honor to have called Howard Coble my mentor, colleague and most importantly, my friend.
I offer my deepest condolences to his family as they and the people of North Carolina will surely miss him in a very big way.”
