Marino Votes to Halt Obama’s Syrian Resettlement Program
Washington, D.C.—Congressman Tom Marino voted in favor of H.R. 4038, the American Security Against Foreign Enemies Act of 2015 (SAFE), which requires the federal government to certify the backgrounds of refugees entering the United States. As indicated by top intelligence and security officials, the U.S. does not currently possess the processes for ensuring every incoming refugee from Syria and/or Iraq is not connected to terrorist organizations.
Congressman Marino issued the following statement after the bill’s passage by a vote of 289-137:
“The fact that 47 Democrats also voted in favor of this legislation is an indication this issue is not a partisan one – and it should not be. America knows all too well the impact of terrorism on our homeland and we cannot, under any circumstances, afford to increase the chances of being attacked. Clearly our national security community is signaling they are already strained, and this bill is part of a thorough process by the Homeland Security Committee to ensure we know who is coming in before they step foot on American soil.”
