Marino Returns From Middle East Trip
WILLIAMSPORT (March 24, 2011) -- U.S. Rep. Tom Marino will return from a week-long trip to the Middle East tomorrow where he met with U.S. military leaders and troops in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Marino will discuss his experiences at a press conference at 3 p.m. Friday at the Lycoming Memorial U.S. Army Reserve Center, 1605 Four Mile Drive, Williamsport.
The congressman was one of four members of Congress on the trip and the only lawmaker from Pennsylvania. Others on the trip were Reps. Marsha Blackburn, R-Tenn.; Michael Grimm, R-NY; and John Sarbanes, D-Md.
The congressional delegation met with U.S. and host nation military and civilian leaders in Iraq and Afghanistan to discuss issues relating to training and equipping of combat forces. They addressed combat operations, reconstruction efforts and training of Afghan and Iraqi security forces.
They also visited with troops in both countries.
Marino is scheduled to arrive in Washington, D.C., Friday morning before heading home to the 10th District.
The public, along with members of the media, are invited to attend Friday’s press conference. Marino will brief those in attendance about his trip and take questions from the audience.
