Marino: President Obama and His Advisers Are Flat-out Inept
Washington, D.C.—Congressman Tom Marino (PA-10) attended a joint committee hearing between the House Committees on Homeland Security and Foreign Affairs today to discuss the growing terrorist threat to the U.S. homeland.
Marino, a member of both committees, questioned retired four-star General Jack Keane about President Obama’s seeming inability to heed the advice of his Joint Chiefs of Staff, led by General Joseph Dunford Jr., and instead act upon the recommendations of unqualified political advisers.
Marino’s question to General Keane is as follows (video file is attached):
“I’m going to skip right to the ‘but’ part, ok? Let’s cut to the chase here. The President does not want to be responsible for civilian deaths, and he has had opportunities to arm Iraqi and Syrian men, but chose not to, and he constantly says ISIS is contained now. Unless I’m not grasping something here, the President has turned his back on this disaster. Do you truly believe that one person, i.e. the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs, can influence the President to change his position and reverse his policies when his inept foreign policy advisors have controlled the President since day one?”
General Keane responded:
“I honestly don’t know. Honestly we’ve been frustrated with this policy and dealing with ISIS from the outset. I’m absolutely convinced that the decision was made to provide the minimum amount of resources and I think that the President, and the team around him, was making a bet that this thing would not really get worse. They never used the word ‘contain’, they used the word ‘degrade’ and then ‘destroy’, then they changed that to ‘defeat’, which is a better military term than ‘destroy’. And I think they were just hoping that their minimal policies of involvement here would keep a lid on this thing, but it hasn’t and that’s the reality of it. Now your question is, given what has taken place, will the president make substantive change to get a decisive result? I doubt it, to be frank.”
After the hearing, Congressman Marino remarked:
“It has never been clearer to the American people, our allies and the world that President Obama is thoroughly disinterested in killing every last one of ISIS’s fighters and sympathizers. In a dilemma that has reached critical mass, the President has chosen to turn his back on the plight of millions while ignoring the clear and proud moments in world history where American leadership has been the difference between evil prevailing or losing.”
In addition to Congressman Marino’s participation in today’s joint hearing, he joined dozens of his House colleagues in penning a letter to President Obama urging him to immediately halt all plans to admit thousands of Syrian so-called “refugees” into the United States.
Most Members of the Pennsylvania Republican delegation also signed a letter to Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf asking that he rescind his support President Obama’s Syrian resettlement plan. Governor Wolf joined a minority group of highly partisan governors expressing support for the President’s plan.
- On November 17th, 2015, Congressman Marino sent a letter to Governor Wolf asking him to reverse his support for Syrian resettlement programs until the Department of Homeland Security can provide absolute certainty that all Syrian “refugees” can be cleared from ties to ISIS or other terror affiliates.
