Marino Applauds Passage of Congressional Pay Freeze Bill

January 3, 2013
Press Release

\Washington, D.C. – U.S. Representative Tom Marino (R-PA) released the following statement in response to House passage of H.R. 6726, the Congressional Pay Freeze and Fiscal Responsibility Act:

“At a time when families across the country are facing economic hardship and uncertainty, it is outrageous that President Obama would order a pay raise for the Vice-President and members of Congress.  Today’s bipartisan vote to block the federal pay increase should send a clear message to the President that he is clearly out of touch with the fiscal challenges facing our nation.  Instead of federal employee pay increases, that money should go directly to paying down the national debt.”

On Thursday, December 27, 2012, President Obama issued an executive order to end the federal employee pay freeze, granting salary increases for the Vice President, Members of Congress, and other federally elected and presidentially appointed officials.  This bill will maintains the current pay freeze for all civilian employees of the federal government through calendar year 2013 and was passed in the House by a vote of 287-129 (Roll no. 655).
