Congressman Tours Dialysis Center
TUNHANNOCK, Pa. (May 6, 2011) -- DaVita Inc., a leading provider of kidney care services for those diagnosed with chronic kidney disease (CKD), announced that U.S. Rep. Tom Marino, representing the 10th Congressional District, came to DaVita Tunkhannock Dialysis clinic today to meet patients and caregivers and learn about dialysis, particularly the kidney care needs of Pennsylvania residents.
“As co-chair of the Congressional Kidney Caucus it is important to me to educate myself and others about chronic kidney disease” Marino said. “I want to thank the DaVita Tunkhannock facility for hosting me and allowing me to meet patients and caregivers to understand how being on dialysis greatly affects peoples’ lives.”
More than 31 million Americans are affected by CKD, 90 percent of whom are unaware they are affected by the disease. The chance that an American adult has CKD is nearly 12 times greater than an American woman’s risk of getting breast cancer. High risk groups include African-Americans, Hispanics, Pacific Islanders, Native Americans and seniors (those 60 and over). Primary risk factors include diabetes, hypertension, cardiovascular disease and a family history of these conditions.
DaVita believes the more you know about your kidneys and how they work, the better choices you’ll be able to make about your own care, so the company encourages anyone that is at high to ask their doctor to check their kidney function.
The Tunkhannock Dialysis Center serves Wyoming county and surrounding areas. For more information, please call (570) 836-6139 or visit the clinic at 5950 SR 6, Tunkhannock, PA 18657.
