Marino Responds to Budget Office Warnings

Aug 22, 2012 Issues: Economy and Jobs

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

August 22, 2012

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Marino (R-PA) issued the following statement in response to the report released by the Congressional Budget Office earlier this morning:

"Unfortunately, the Budget office report released today has once again highlighted President Obama's inability to lead our nation out of one of the worst economic crises we have faced. This report has made it clear that without significant and immediate action our nation will plummet into another economic recession, unemployment will exceed 9%, and the economy will contract by almost 3%.

"Instead of playing political games, the President needs to put forth a plan for addressing our nation's debt.  Instead of the fourth straight year of trillion dollar deficits, we need a balanced budget.  Instead of a massive tax increase, we need a government that lives within its means.

"House Republicans have put forth a number of solutions that will stop the massive tax increases on all Americans, reduce out of control federal spending, and will comprehensively reform the tax code to allow entrepreneurs and small businesses to create jobs and grow the economy.  Additionally, the House of Representatives has passed over thirty jobs bills, which now sit idly on Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid's desk.  It is time that President Obama and the leaders in the Senate set aside their political ambitions and join us in addressing the critical economic issues facing our nation.

"If looming tax hikes are not averted and sequestration cuts are not replaced, our economy will be devastated.  If we do not stand up for the American people now, our nation will freefall over the edge of the fiscal cliff we have created through decades of uncontrolled spending and irresponsible governing.
